Weekly Roundup 14/07/19 – 20/07/19

Copy of WEEKLY ROUND UP BLOG

  • Sunday 14/07/19

I woke really early this morning, put some washing on and had a coffee.  I then had a shower and went to my friend’s house and picked up some laundry (they currently don’t have a washing machine and usually do all their washing in work), came home and emptied the washing machine of my wash before loading it up with theirs.  I then worked on my blog for a bit before my other friend popped by.  We went out for late lunch to a local pub then came back here.  My friend needed to do some things for work on the computer so I left them to it and went into the garden.  I potted up some peas and bean (a bit late I know, but I’ve been told by a reliable source that they should still grow!).  After I’d done that and my friend had finished work we sat and watched a film together.

  • Monday 15/07/19

Worked today though nothing much happened really, it was just a normal day! I finished at 4:00pm and popped to see my friend for an hour then came back home.  My other friend called in after they had finished work and we watched a film and chatted.  It was a really nice evening.  After they had gone I did a few blog-related things then had an early night!  I was shattered!

  • Tuesday 16/07/19

Worked until 6:00pm today as I had a few things that I wanted to finish and get off of my desk for the following day.  My friend came over and we had some food and watched a bit of tv before they headed home.  I called my Mum and Dad who are on holiday in Cornwall and it sounded like they were having a lovely break!

  • Wednesday 17/07/19

Another workday, and aside from it being a bit too noisy for my liking it felt like the day went quick!  I came home and made a coffee but fell asleep on the sofa before I could drink it.  I woke around 8:30pm.  Once I woke I played around on Canva for a bit before heading to bed with Roxy.  I don’t know why but I felt really lacking in motivation and energy today.

  • Thursday 18/07/19

Work today was a bit better noise-wise, we had a team meeting about annual leave and volume of work that needs to be done which seemed to change the team dynamics a bit.  I finished at 5:00pm and headed home.  My friend came by for the evening which was filled with food, laughs and films before they went back.  I managed to have another early night!

  • Friday 19/07/19

Dress down Friday in work today!  I love dress down Fridays!  It rained pretty much all day today which was good as my lawn and plants really needed to be watered!  I had a half-day so clocked off at 12:05pm and headed to town to do some food shopping.  Once that was done and the car loaded up I then called into Tkmaxx for a look around before heading to Pets At Home which had a sale on fish tanks.  The tank I have been eyeing up for aaaaaggggggeeeeesss was in the sale but was still a bit too expensive to buy (I may ask for it as a Birthday present though…).  I got home and unpacked my shopping and put it away.  I hate putting the shopping away, it seems to take forever!  Once that was done I sat and worked on some blog bits along with a few other ideas that I have!  I had a few beers and then went to bed.

  • Saturday 20/07/19

I slept in way too long, waking at 12:55pm.  I got up and had a coffee, half-watched something on tv while catching up on blog posts and deciding what I was going to do for the day.  I decided to nip to town to get a few things after getting changed.  Once home I decided to have a swap around of some furniture, one thing led to another and I ended up moving things around in my dining room, living room and bedroom.  The house was a state as I had to empty off shelving and move it, clean the shelves and put things back on them, moved some books, finally moved the pallets that I had been given from the living room, dismantled my old bed, made my pallet bed, moved some more things around and now everywhere needs a good hoover!  I also need to do a few tip runs but there is always tomorrow right?  Now it is 11:45pm and I have a nice bottle of wine chilling in the fridge that I am going to break into and treat myself to a glass of!

What have you been up to this week?  I’d love to hear in the comments!

Saturday Shout Out – Tales of Belle

Copy of Shout Out To

Today’s Saturday Shout Out goes to Karalee who blogs over at Tales of Belle. a blog about beauty, books, and lifestyle.  It is a blog where you will find reviews of beauty products and books, makeup looks, and posts about blogging as well as recipes which has been running for the past 3 years – since May 2016.

I asked Karalee what some of her favourite blog posts that she has written are, here’s what she said

  1. The Worst Advice for Bloggers. Blogging is very personal and even when there is a good intention behind a piece of advice, it should not always be followed. I enjoyed sharing what advice I thought was the worst as well as hearing what bad advice other bloggers received.
  2. 25 Things To Do Before Turning 25. I liked making a list of 25 things I wanted to do before my 25th birthday and seeing how many I could do within a 6 month period.
  3. About Living in Denmark. I enjoyed sharing a more personal post where I answered the common questions I receive about living in Denmark and answering several questions from other bloggers as well
  4. My Top Netflix Picks. When I am not blogging in the evenings, I am either watching Netflix or playing video games, and I liked sharing my favourite shows.
  5. 125 Beauty, Books, and Lifestyle Blog Post Ideas. This is the most popular post I have ever written, and compiling the list helped me and other bloggers.

As you can see from the range of posts Karalee picked, there is a wide range of things that should pique a lot of peoples interests!

A fun fact about Karalee is that…

Outside of blogging, I am a full-time child studies master’s student and a mother to a 3-year-old daughter.

You can also find Karalee over at

Why don’t you go over to her blog and social media accounts and say hi?

Ami’s Questions

  1. What movie title best describes your life?  The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
  2. If you were to create a single item of stationery, what would it be called and what would it include?  Hmm…some kind of storage device that could hold all my stationery and make it easy to transport it all by shrinking it all down into a small little box that could fit into your pocket.  It would be called the “Statio-shrink”.
  3. What are you most likely to become famous for?  Doing or saying something completely ridiculous!
  4. What is the most heartwarming thing you’ve ever seen?  Any act of kindness, especially the small things that go unnoticed in day to day life.
  5. Where would you spend all your time if you could?  At home with Roxy!  But Id move my home to the coast so I could spend time on the beach too!
  6. What amazing thing did you do that no-one was around to see?  I did a handstand once because my friend dared me, via text…I’d had a few gin and tonics at the time and I didn’t even remember to video it.
  7. What was your favourite board game growing up?  I had a game called “Beatrix Potter Race Game” which had figures of the animals (Jemima Puddle-Duck, Peter Rabbit and others) that you had to race around the board but there were cards you had to take if you landed on certain squares which could either help you along your way or scupper your progression.
  8. What is the best thing about you?  That I can listen, offer advice, and am loyal.
  9. What is your favourite smell?  Anything rose.  I’m currently loving Yardley English Rose.  I also love perfume from Lush called Lust.
  10. What was the best compliment you ever received?  Hmmm… that’s a hard one… probably, on days when I am not feeling too good about myself, what I’m wearing or how I look then the best compliments are people saying that I look nice, they seem to be the most memorable ones.
  11. Who are the most important people in your life?  My parents, brothers, their families and my friends.  And Roxy!

My Questions

Top 10 Ways to Stay Hydrated

Copy of TOP 10 THURSDAY - PHOTOS (1)

In the UK we have hit our summertime, and with that comes temperatures that can reach 25-26-27 degrees.  In this heat, it can be really easy to not get enough hydration into our systems and, as a result, can start feeling the effects with headaches, tiredness, dry skin and a host of other symptoms.  It is really important, any day of the year, to be well hydrated, but in the summer months, this is even more essential.  Today’s Top 10 are my favorite ways to make sure I stay hydrated.

  1.  Set an alarm on your phone at 1-hour intervals, and if you have not had a glass of water in that time go and get yourself a glass and drink it.
  2. Avoid salty snacks.  I find that these can make you feel dehydrated quite quickly.
  3. Go easy on the coffee.  Caffeine is a mild diuretic, making you pee more.  Can’t give up the caffeine fix?  Have a glass of water with every cup of coffee you have.
  4. Ease up on drinking anything too sugary, like fizzy drinks.  I find that they can accelerate the symptoms of dehydration (especially headaches) rather than lessen them.
  5. Eat fruit and veg with a high water content – watermelon (or any kind of melon), cucumber and salads are great at providing extra water for your body.
  6. Make your own healthy ice lollies (I shared some ideas here) and snack on them during the day.
  7. Make sure to carry a (reusable) bottle full of water around with you in your bag.  You never know when you might get thirsty.
  8. Listen to your body…Hunger pangs and thirst often manifest in similar ways.  If you feel hungry then have a glass of water as it may be thirst you are feeling.
  9. Don’t like plain water?  There are loads of different things you can do to make water more interesting, from fruit infused water to adding cold brew fruit tea bags, play around until you find something that you love!
  10. Ice cube chips in a glass can be really refreshing to crunch on and help to cool you down in the process while adding to your hydration levels!

Do you have any favorite ways to stay hydrated?  Let me know in the comments!

Words on Wednesday

Wednesday (3)

I’ve been thinking a lot, recently, about targeted advertising and its effects on mental health.

Targeted advertising campaigns are usually run by online services, typically social media such as Facebook and Instagram.  This type of advertising uses different methods of selecting the types of adverts we see, from items we have searched for online, products we have bought, our location, age, gender, race, and even relationship status.  Some of these adverts are specifically targeted, for example, you may have searched for a certain type of tea and start seeing more adverts for different types or brands of tea, others could be more generally targeted, such as posting your relationship as being single, you may get targeted with dating site adverts, others may use your demographic, mine being female, 30’s, single, in full or part and match your stats to what others in that group have been searching for, or things that advertisers may think your age group are interested in.

My thoughts on the types of targeted advertising.

  • Specifically Targeted.

I don’t mind specifically targeted adverts as I find that I can discover other brands that I may never have heard of before or items I may never have considered.  This type of advertising is a bit like browsing the supermarket shelves and can expose us to more brands and deals.

  • Generally Targeted.

Generally targeted adverts can be a good or bad thing, I’m neither for or against this type of advert.  Back in my Facebook days, I found lots of things I was interested in through generally targeted adverts, equally were the adverts that I saw making the assumption that I was lonely and needed to find a date what with being single and everything…(eyeroll)

giphy-downsized

  • Demographically Targeted.

This type of advertising is one that I have seen a huge rise in and the one that I find affects me most mentally.  I see adverts for weight loss products, fertility treatments, baby and toddler things, wedding dresses, the list is endless.  This type of advertising makes assumptions based on what it knows about you and where you fit in society, what your age group and gender are searching for, not you specifically, and this is the advertising I think that is most damaging to our mental health.

Why do I think this demographically targeted advertising is most damaging to our mental health?

This advertising makes assumptions about us regarding our age, gender, location and shows adverts that others in that group have been looking at.  Now, the adverts that I have seen assume that because I am in my 30’s I am thinking about or having children, that I am looking to lose weight quickly, planning a wedding, buying my dream home, and I’m not doing any of those things.  On a good day, this kind of advertising doesn’t bother me, and in all honesty, I don’t pay it that much attention, however, on a bad day, this sort of advertising can add to my negative mood.  I find myself comparing me to others, feeling sad, lost and insecure, unaccomplished and wondering if I am good enough.

Instagram introduced a mute button for us to still follow an account but not see their feed anymore, partly to stop us feeling so overwhelmed by others seemingly perfect lives (well, that is what I have used it for in the past) and it has been a suggested technique by several articles to help people to start loving their own lives again.  I have gotten used to seeing perfectly styled Instagram images and am aware that the images we see are highly curated, well lit and edited, and I view them as I do magazine images –  they are only that way for a second and no one sees how bad things may be behind the camera lens, or know in truth what is really happening behind the scenes.  What I am unable to block or mute are these demographically targeted adverts that I seem to be bombarded with each and every time I step foot onto social media.  And if I am being affected by them, how many others are as well?

What do you think of demographically targeted adverts?  Let me know in the comments!  I’d love to hear your opinion.

A Look Around My Home – Kitchen

Today, I thought I would share a look around my kitchen as I have shared a look around other parts of my home previously (which you can find here) but not yet shared my kitchen at all.

Just to let you know that this post IS IMAGE HEAVY… (just to warn you in case it doesn’t load on your device…)

I’m pretty happy with this room so far but I still want to finish painting it green at some point!

What is your kitchen like?  Let me know in the comments!
