Top 10 Bath and Shower Products

img_1377

It’s another Thursday guys!!!!  And that can only mean one thing, another Top 10 Thursday post!!!!  Today I am going to share with you my Top 10 Bath and Shower Products, so sit back and enjoy my list!

  • Original Source Shower Gel. I love fruit scented shower gels and this one is one of my favorites by far!
  • Shampoo.  I really love all of the different shampoos that Lush create, but my all time favorite has to be Godiva Solid Shampoo Bar.  It smells lovely, leaves heair soft, manageable, tangle free, lasts for ages and is super easy to use too!
  • Conditioner.  I have tried so many different conditioners, from super expensive “luxury” brands to the cheapest of the cheap supermarket own brands and I always come back to Sugar Daddy-O Solid Conditioner by Lush.  Again, this smells amazing, lasts for ages and does everything you want a conditioner to do!
  • Body Scrub.  Beauty Kitchen Chill Me Scrub.  I don’t use a scrub on my body very often and see it more as a treat than an everyday thing and really love this scrub!  It smells of sage and is very calming.  I love the way my skin feels afterwards, the packaging and how my bathroom smells like a spa after using!
  • Bubble Bath.  I love having a long, lazy bath on a weekend, filled to the brim with bubbles and this Karma Bubble Bar from Lush is definitely my indulgent addition to bathing!  This makes a gazillion bubbles and smells so calming!
  • Face Mask.  While soaking in the bath I love to use a face mask or scrub as the steam from the bath can really help to open up the pores and help the product to work its best.  I am a big fan of Garnier Pure Active 3 in 1 Clay Mask, Scrub, Wash as it is a multi-use product which always works wonders on my skin.
  • Shaving.  Hair Removal is not one of my favourite things to do but find it easier to get done in the shower rather than in the bath.  I used to use shaving foam but was recommended Coconut Oil as an alternative.  Since making the switch I have not looked back!  I find that I get less nicks and cuts, my skin doesn’t dry out half as much and a tiny bit of product goes a long way.
  • Hair Mask.  As I bleach and dye my hair on a fairly regular basis I feel that it is only right that I treat it to a hair mask once a week/fortnight and I currently love Bleach London Reincarnation Mask.  I apply this to damp hair and laze in the bath reading a good book for around 20 mins before rinsing off.  This product leaves my hair super soft and manageable, and restores the shine that bleach seems to strip from my hair.
  • Moisturiser.  Body Butter is another one of those products that I don’t really use much unless it is summer time but I have a big soft spot for Strawberry or Satsuma Body Shop butters.  These products sink into your skin really well and leave a lovely scent behind.  They are one of my definite summer go to products!
  • Deodorant.  I discovered solid, packaging less deodorant a few years back and am totally in love with Sunflower Solid Deodorant from Lush.  This works really well and the scent is not overpowering, it isn’t harsh on your skin and is better for the environment (and your skin) than deodorants that come in cans or bottles.  I have no irritation with this one and always smell fresh!

Recipe of the Month – May

Today’s Recipe of the Month is a tried and tested favourite of mine, Rice Salad, which is perfect to eat hot or cold, can be made using leftovers and is a super handy meal to make for lunch.

Firstly you will need to cook some rice, I really like using wild rice but Basmati rice or any other rice will do.  I usually cook enough for 2 servings.

You can choose all kinds of different veg to go with your rice, here’s a list of a few that works really well

  •     Peas
  •     Carrots
  •     Celery
  •     Courgette
  •     Mushrooms
  •     Tomatoes
  •     Sweetcorn
  •     Chickpeas
  •     Peppers
  •     Olives
  •     Beetroot
  •     Onions

I try to add a few different coloured options as I like my plate to be as colourful as possible!  Not only that but you are getting nutrition, vitamins and minerals from a wide array of foodstuffs!

If I have any leftover soy mince or quorn pieces from my previous meal I will add them to the mix and have also added pineapple chunks, peanuts, sultanas and other nuts, seeds and fruit to add a bit of texture and flavour interest as well!

I use about 1 portion of each of my selected vegetables, prepare and cook if necessary before adding to the rice and stirring it all in.

I enjoy this hot in a bowl or cold with a salad at lunch in work!

Z is for Zodiac

Today marks the last day of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge and with that sees this post cover the last letter, Z, and the topic I have chosen is Zodiac.

I have always had an interest in the Zodiac, the traits of each Zodiac sign, whether they align with a person’s personality or not and the compatibility to other zodiac signs.

Images courtesy of Pinterest

I was born on Friday 16th October which means I was born under the Zodiac sign Libra, the star sign of balance and harmony.  According to research, the main traits of a Libra are (taken from this site)

Strengths:

  • Cooperative
  • Diplomatic
  • Gracious
  • Fair-minded
  • Social

Weaknesses:

  • Indecisive
  • Avoids confrontations
  • Will carry a grudge
  • Self-pity

Likes:

  • Harmony
  • Gentleness
  • Sharing with others
  • The outdoors

Dislikes:

  • Violence
  • Injustice
  • Loudmouths
  • Conformity

I have read about these traits and can honestly say that I agree with each and every one of them.  I am a great believer in being fair and giving people a chance, I hate making decisions and can procrastinate when it comes to big decisions that will impact, not just myself, but others too.  I hate confrontation and will do anything in my power to avoid any sort of conflict, the worst of this avoidance is that I can bottle things up, not talk about my feelings and that can have a negative effect on my health.

There are so many different things about the Zodiac that are interesting to me, and so much more that I could discuss about my sign, more in-depth things that could be considered but I want to keep this post short…

What is your Zodiac sign and what traits do you have that align with your Zodiac traits?

This Month on the Blog!

img_1380

I can’t quite believe that April is over though I’m sure I say this every month!  This month seems to have passed by so quickly, aided in part by my taking part in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge which saw me posting a new topic each day, starting with A on the 1st of April and finishing with Z today (Sundays were a day of rest!).  It has been a month of blogging and coffee!

This month on the blog things start to return to normal, though I am considering introducing a few new things to the blog just to see whether they work and are something I can sustain for the future so bear with me!

This month on the blog I will be sharing…

  • Recipe of the Month.  I am going to share with you an easy veggie rice salad that is perfect hot or cold and super easy to prepare!
  • Top 10’s which will appear each Thursday.
  • Monthly Goals for May
  • Blog Bullet Journal
  • What is a Blogger?
  • A Day in My Life – Weekend
  • Product Review
  • Blog Maintainance
  • Things I am Looking Forward to – Summer
  • Favorite Outfit – Summer
  • Product Empties

There may be other posts along the way including introduction posts for things I want to add to my blog on a regular basis, look out for these!!!!

What is happening on your blog this month?

WordPress Glitches

I’ve been reading a lot of posts recently about various glitches being experienced on WordPress from comments and likes never being seen and being sent to the spam folder, posts being scheduled to never get published and vanishing into the unknown, the stats being scrambled… I’m currently experiencing 2 totally separate glitches it seems…

1) My reader isn’t showing hardly any of the blogs that I follow. I can see a few hours worth of posts by people I follow then it shows me things I saw 2 weeks ago. This is super frustrating as I really like to read all the posts my blog friends publish.

2) My spell check button has totally disappeared. I can’t find it on the app or on the website when writing posts. I’ve tried logging out and back in, refreshing the page and still nothing…

If anyone has any suggestions, especially with the spell check then help would be greatly appreciated! Writing everything on word to copy and paste into the editor is a P.I.T.A (pain in the a$$)

Just to note I am using the Classic editor as I’m still figuring out Gutenberg….

Edited to add, this is my current screen when blogging….

This is the 25th post in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge which means we are very near the end, just one more post after this one!

Today’s post is the letter Y and I’m going to share with you what I did yesterday!

Yesterday I awoke at just gone 9am which is pretty early for me on a weekend.  The sun was shining and my room was really bright, it sounded pretty calm outside which was nice as the day before I had awoken to the sound of heavy rain and high winds.

I hadn’t planned on doing much, the weather for the weekend had been fairly inclement with forecasts of rain in between sunny spells so I didn’t really fancy venturing too far from home.

I decided that, after purchasing paint earlier in the week that the day would be perfect for me to start decorating my bedroom.

I got up and got dressed before having a cup of coffee and checking out the blogs I follow.

I decided that I would try out my new laptop, a Geo Flex which is a laptop that can convert to a tablet instead of using my trusty Dell laptop.

After breakfast of toast and marmite I made a start on setting up for decorating.  I tidied up my clothes and put my washing away and then wiped down the skirting boards, hoovered the floor, moved the bed and dusted down the walls before making a start on the cutting in.

The colour I had chosen for my room was from B&Q and is called Shizuoka, I shizuoka you not!  It is a lovely deep purple, almost aubergine purple colour, the pictures on the website do not do the colour justice.

By 2pm I had got the first coat of paint on the main wall.  While it was drying I thought that it would be a good time to have some lunch.  I had beans on toast, a coffee and caught up on some blog reading!

img_3945

After I had finished eating I went back upstairs and put the second coat on the wall then made a start on the second wall before washing my makeup brushes while the paint was drying.  I also put a wash load of clothes in the washing machine.

Once the both walls were painted I decided to paint the third wall before having a bath.

By the time I’d had my bath it was nearly 8pm and I was hungry and feeling a bit tired.  I put my food into the oven to cook and did the washing up while waiting, I didn’t fancy anything much but made myself fish and chips.  I then sat with Roxy and watched some of Gossip Girl on Netflix before heading up to move my bed back into place, put the rest of the furniture tidy and get into bed for a well-deserved rest!

What did you get up to yesterday?

X is for Xper

AtoZ2019X

You can find information about the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge here or read the rest of my A to Z posts by following this link.

Todays Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is the letter X and that could prove to be quite a challenge for some people considering only 0.02% of the words in the English Language start with the letter X.

I spent a fair while thinking about what I could write about for the letter x and couldn’t really come up with anything aside from X Marks the Spot and was thinking of writing a piece about pirates or coming up with a blog game that meant my readers had to find a specific place in my blog in order to win something but that never came about, this was mainly due to me doing further research into words beginning with x.  I found some pretty neat sites that listed obscure words for x ( like this site and this one).  It was on the second site that I found the word XPER, and decided that it would be the word for todays challenge post.

Isnt Xper such a good word?  It’s a really nice word to say out loud!  Try it!!!!  But what does it mean?  Well, Xper means “to show how much of an expert you are at something”, and I tink that we all would like to think we are experts at something.  I am not sure if I would like to call myself an expert at anything as I believe that there is always so much more we can learn in any field we choose, and with the introduction of technology and the internet we can learn so much more in a small timeframe.  Technology also has the ability to create new ways of doing things or to change what we already know.  For example, I would say that I am very proficient at WordPress and have mastered much of the site and what it can do, but, with the move from the Classic Editor to Gutenberg, I will be having to learn new skills and ways of doing things.

I don’t think, even professors or doctors can really call themselves experts anymore, with new advances being made in medicine and in teaching, even the subjects that are taught are changing.  I guess we will never truly be “experts” again.

W is for Work

AtoZ2019W

You can find information about the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge here or read the rest of my A to Z posts by following this link.

We are nearing the end of the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge now, and it all seems to have passed really quickly!  Today’s letter is W and today’s topic is Work!

I have worked in many different roles since I was old enough to have a job.  I started out working part-time, mostly Saturdays with the odd weekday thrown in, as a photographic assistant in a shop that processed and printed photos for the public, taking in 35mm film and turning it into negatives and then checking the images before printing.  The place I worked at also had a studio upstairs that families would book for occasions and have their photos taken.  It was one of my favorite jobs.  You never knew what images you would find on the rolls of film that were bought in!

After that I worked in retail, stocking shelves, stock taking and serving customers in a budget store that sold pretty much anything that you could shove a price tag on.  I wasn’t really keen on that job, the shop was dirty and smelly and had so much stock piled haphazardly in the store-room that you took your life into your own hands even opening the door.  The hours were long and the lunch break was short and we would often be shouted at for things that we had or hadn’t done.  That was probably one of the worst jobs I ever had.

I have worked in many call centres, taking orders for catalogues, chasing payments, working for insurance brokers, gas, electric and phone suppliers and in customer service where we would phone customers we had supplied with goods to check that everything was ok and they were happy with the service they had received.  I worked on so many different campaigns and for different team managers and the whole experience was very mixed.

I have worked in several pubs, a few being family run affairs and another being a big chain.  I preferred working for the smaller, family run pubs, the atmosphere was always warm and welcoming and we cared about the people who came through the doors.  We would always have a chat with the people we were serving and really got to know them and it was a pleasure to call them friends.  The chain pubs were totally different, management only seemed to care about what went in the till, not so much on the experience for the customer.  Everything was rushed and it was always really stressful when on shift.

I worked in a bank, behind the scenes opening business bank accounts in the night.  that was a fun job as we had to cross reference business names in a directory and if the name had already been used then we had to run a program that came up with similar names (a bit like when you want to open a new email address to find the name had been taken), some of the names that came up were quite funny and the suggestions the program threw out were even funnier!  I wish I could remember them!

I worked in a supermarket as a sampler – the person who prepares new food and lets you have a sample in the hope that you will buy it!  We didn’t just work with new food stuffs, I worked demonstrating toys and beauty products too.  I really liked working to promote the beauty items, whether it was a new toothbrush, body spray or shower gel and always seemed to get really good sales results for that part of my job!

I had a job as a cleaner which I used to work first thing in the mornings ( 5:30 – 7am) in an office block.  There was something both eerie and calming about being in offices before anyone else was about.  I used to empty the office bins, hoover, clean the conference room, dust, wipe down desks and clean the kitchen as part of my job role and I really enjoyed it.

Right now, I work as an admin assistant as part of a payments team for a medical company.  The job itself doesn’t differ much day-to-day but the banter and the people who I work with (some are part-time) help to make the days go faster.  It’s not a job that I ever saw myself doing, and if you had asked a teenage me where I would be in 10 years, 15 years or longer, I doubt very much that I would have said that I would be working in an office processing payments, but I also think, back then I didn’t really know what I wanted to do!

What work have you done in your life?  I would love to hear about it in the comments!

Simple Swaps to Become More Eco Friendly

The easiest way to become more eco-friendly is to analyse the things you use on a day-to-day basis and seek out versions that are more environmentally friendly.  Here’s a list of things you may want to consider switching to…

  • Shower Gel in plastic bottles to bar soap.
  • Shampoo and conditioner in bottles to solid versions.
  • Cleaning products to more eco-friendly versions.
  • Plastic toothbrushes to wooden ones.
  • Vacuum cleaners to sweeping brush.
  • Plastic wrap for silicone wrap or beeswax wrap.
  • Plastic carrier bags to canvas totes.
  • Plastic single use drinks bottles for re-usable ones.

You could switch plastic wrapped food items, particularly plastic packaged goods, to loose dried goods that can be packaged in your own re-usable containers or look for goods that are packed in glass or tin that can be recycled or re-used.

Cut down on the amount of electric and gas that you use by turning things off instead of leaving on standby, or by turning your heating down a few degrees or off completely when you don’t need to use it.  When there is a chill in the air, put on more clothing or wrap up with a blanket instead.

Try to grow some of your own veg if you have the garden space or apply for an allotment to grow things in.

Buy local produce where possible, markets are a good place to start as they are usually stocked with local farmers produce and can work out cheaper than buying from a supermarket.

Check each piece of rubbish that is entering your bin to see if you can re-cycle it, you may be surprised at what you can put aside to recycle.

This is only a short list of suggestions…what other things can you think of to help becoming more eco?
